Lagos Anglican Girls’ Grammar School, old students hold 70th anniversary Jan. 10

The Lagos Anglican Girls’ Grammar School, Surulere (LAGGS) in Lagos State and its old students have concluded arrangements to mark the 70 years anniversary and Founders’ Day of the school.

This was made known in a statement issued by the Principal of the school, Folasade Ogedengbe, on Thursday January 2, 2025.

“Celebrating 70 years of impactful existence of an individual, organization or institution is a remarkable and auspicious moment for stock-taking of past accomplishments and projecting for future exploits,” Ogedengbe noted.

She disclosed that event which will span three weeks will commence on Friday, January 10 and end on Monday, January 27, 2025.

She stated: “There will be lots of thrilling moments and mind blowing activities which will create avenues and opportunities for all to reunite, reconnect, network, relive the past and create a platform to meet and channel a greater path for the school.

“The THEME for this celebration is ‘Honouring Our Legacy, Shaping the Future’.

Bishop Odedeji: Nigeria’ll experience God’s touch in 2025

“The Chairman of Archbishop Abiodun Adetiloye Foundation, The Rt. Revd. Dr. Olusola Odedeji, and other eminent personalities will preside over events as well as dedicate facilities during the 70th Anniversary of the school starting from January, 2025.”

According to Ogedengbe, other dignitaries to support Bishop Odedeji in the assignment are the Chairman of Lagos Anglican Schools Management Board, Adenike Brown-Okudoh; the Executive Secretary, The Ven. Victor Ayo Olusa; the Chairman of Lagos Anglican Girls’ Grammar School Board of Governors, Justice Bukunola Adebiyi; the Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello; and the LAGGSOG President, Grace Ben-Okezie.

Ogedengbe, therefore, listed the programme of events to include:

“Friday 10th of January Presentation of a Project by the 1974/75 Class Sets. Time: 10:00 a.m.

“During this event Professor Mrs. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University and an Old girl of LAGGS will deliver a lecture.

“There will be a walk and awareness rally on Saturday 11th January around Surulere axis.  The event will be handled by 1979 and 1988/89 Sets.

“Sunday 12th January has been dedicated for LAGGSOGA Celebration 1974/75 Class Sets. This will be held at the Chapel of Blessed Virgin Mary by 11am.

“Tuesday, 14th January, 2025 there will be Old Girls Home Coming and Tour round the school by  12 noon.

“Sunday, 19th of January by 4pm is slates for ‘Unveiling of the Anniversary Logo’ And an Evening of Praise, Hymns and Psalms within the School’s Chapel. Co-Host by 1984 Set.

“Other programmes designed to add colour to this Event are:

“An Inter-House Sports Competition under the Chairmanship of a distinguished Old Girl, Mrs. Augustina Makasy (President, LAGGSOGA UK and Ireland Chapter) Co-Host by 1982 Set. It will on on Thursday January 23

“There will be a Confirmation Service on Saturday January 25 by 10am prompt at the Chapel of Blessed Virgin Mary while Sunday 26th will be for LAGGSOGA Global Reunion & Lunching of Endowment Fund at Eko Club.

“The celebration will come to a close on Monday, 27th of January with a thanksgiving and Award Ceremony at the Chapel of Blessed Virgin Mary by 11 am.”
