Lagos govt approves use of Hijab in public schools

The Lagos State Government has approved the wearing of Hijab by students in public schools across the state.

This followed the ruling of the Supreme Court which allows students to wear Hijab to school in Lagos State.

The use of Hijab in public schools had become a controversy in the state leading to the Muslim Students Society taking the matter to court in which they eventually get victory at the apex court.

However, the Lagos State Government, on Monday, issued a memo to implement the judgement of the Supreme Court.

The state government, in a memo signed by the state Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, directed schools to comply with the Supreme Court ruling.

The govenment noted that it will soon release a comprehensive guideline on the use of Hijab in public schools.

The Lagos State Government said the court ruling is binding on all schools in the state, adding that as a law abiding institution, it will implement the ruling of the court.
