A law student, Aminat Yusuf, has emerged the best graduating student of the Lagos State University (LASU) with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.00.
The LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, made this known at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, June 14.
The press conference was to announce the university’s 26th convocation ceremony slated for June 21.
The convocation is for the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions.
Olatunji-Bello said Yusuf belonged to the 2021/2022 academic session, adding that Feyisayo Lopez of the 2020/2021 session finished with 4.91 CGPA.
She stated that Lopez studied physiology.

The LASU VC said: “With the total of 282 first class graduating students in the two academic sessions, the university is, therefore, graduating her highest number of first class in her 40 years’ history.
“The breakdown of the first class graduates are as follows: 2020/2021 academic session, 148 graduates; 2021/2022 academic session, 128 graduates; and sandwich (2022 Modular Year), six graduates.
“The total number of graduating students of 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions is 10,183 students in diploma, first degree, postgraduate diploma, academic master’s degree, professional master’s degree, doctor of philosophy, and professional doctoral degree.”
Olatunji-Bello said LASU would be celebrating 40th anniversary of its establishment during the convocation ceremony
She added: “Apart from the 121 who will be awarded doctorate degree, we shall be conferring honorary doctorate degrees and appreciation award on eight eminent Nigerians who have made valuable contributions to the development of LASU and our nation.
“In our march towards the fulfillment of our six strategic goals and, ultimately, the vision to become the best university in West Africa, we have recorded some modest achievements since my last convocation address.
“We have, in the last 12 months, mobilised our human and material resources to strengthen the teaching and learning process.
“LASU was ranked the best state university in Nigeria by the AD Scientific Index in 2022, and we secured 96 per cent full accreditation in the 2022 National Universities Commission’s accreditation exercise.”
