LASU matriculates 12,873 out of 50,000 applicants

Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 matriculated 12,873 students for its 2023/2024 academic session.

Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice-Chancellor of the University, disclosed that over 50,000 applicants subscribed to the university.

The matriculation took place at the main auditorium of the institution in Lagos.

Olatunji-Bello was represented by Prof. Adenike Boyo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), LASU, at the event.

She advised the matriculating students to face their studies so as not to lose the huge opportunity of getting university education.

“It is important for me to mention that LASU is a student-centred university.

“It is a place for the grooming of generational leaders. It is a fact that a university is a place of freedom.

“Our objective is to produce graduates who will be catalysts to the process of transformation of the state to a Greater Lagos,” Olatunji-Bello said.

She said that her administration had zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence.

“This informed our decision to establish the Directorate of Response and Preventive of Sexual and Gender-based violence.

“Do not keep silent when you are harassed or assaulted in any manner, ‘if you see something, say something’.

“Show respect to your colleagues and staff in the university to make your stay successful and productive,” Olatunji-Bello said.

Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, Dean, Students Affairs Division, advised the new students to consider managing their time and devote their energy towards building their personal development and academic excellence.

Fatal-Abatan said that LASU sought to prepare students for global competitiveness and connect them to the world through a robust and inclusive educational experience.

“I urge all the new students to detest any form of anti-social behaviour such as bullying, assaults, violence, cultism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing and sexual harassment within and outside the campus,” he said.
