Liverpool announce Arne Slot as new coach

Liverpool have announced Feyenoord coach Arne Slot as the new manager of the Premier League club.

Liverpool announced this in a statement on Monday.

Slot will start his new role on June 1, replacing Jurgen Klopp, who took charge of his final Liverpool game against Wolves on Sunday after the German spent the last nine years at Anfield.

The club noted: “Liverpool Football Club can announce Arne Slot has agreed a deal to become the club’s new head coach, formally taking up the position on June 1, 2024, subject to a work permit.

“The 45-year-old will join the Reds from Feyenoord ahead of the 2024-25 season after a deal was reached with the Eredivisie club for his services.

“Slot will replace Jürgen Klopp at the helm following his decision to step down from the post at the end of the current campaign.”

Arne Slot agrees deal to become Liverpool coach

It was learnt that Slot signed a three-year deal that runs until the summer of 2027 with Liverpool.

Slot secured the Dutch Cup in April and led Feyenoord to their first title in six years in the 2022-23 season.

Slot had previously been approached by Tottenham, Chelsea, and Leeds.

He signed a new contract last May to keep him at Feyenoord until 2026 but had referenced a desire to make the next step in his career.

Slot took over from Dick Advocaat at Feyenoord for the start of the 2021/22 season with the club having finished fifth the previous campaign.

Two years later, they were champions of the Eredivisie. He built a pressing team playing intense, attack-minded football while also being able to win.

During his time at Liverpool, Klopp won the UEFA Champions League in 2019, the Premier League in 2020, as well as the 2022 FA Cup and two Carabao Cup trophies in 2022 and 2024.

He also won the Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup trophies in 2019.

Klopp announced his Liverpool departure in January of this year, citing a lack of energy to continue managing the club at the highest level.
