A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, sentenced a 30-year-old man, Barau Aminu, to six months imprisonment for stealing five bags of rice and N200,000 cash.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel sentenced Aminu, who resides in Kawo, Kaduna after he pleaded guilty to theft.
Emmanuel, however, gave the defendant an option of N20,000 fine.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that Aminu committed the offence in Kawo Market on April 12, 2022.

Leo said the convict stole five bags of rice worth N169,000 and N200,000 cash belonging to Malam Shuaibu Mohammad.
He said the convict was apprehended by the security guards while trying to escape in a tricycle.
The offence, he said, is punishable under Section 271 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
