Man City win record 4th Premier League in a row

Manchester City, on Sunday, won the Premier League title for a record fourth season in a row, beating West Ham 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium on the final day.

City clinched the victory they needed to pip Arsenal to the title by two points – their sixth Premier League triumph of Pep Guardiola’s era.

No side in the history of the English top flight had ever won four successive titles.

Guardiola has masterminded six Premier League wins in the past seven seasons.

In four of those years, City have also surpassed 90 points. They were pushed this season to deny Arsenal a first title since 2003/04.

The champions trailed Liverpool by three points and Arsenal by one when they drew at home to the Gunners on March 31 but they went on to win their final nine league games to surge to the top of the standings.

There have also been individual honours for FWA player of the year Phil Foden and Golden Boot winner Erling Haaland.

City will however now turn their attentions to the FA Cup final, where they will hope to complete the double by beating neighbours Manchester United at Wembley on Saturday, May 25.

Meanwhile, Arsenal finished the season as runners-up to City despite Kai Havertz’s late goal clinching a 2-1 win over Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

Havertz’s close-range finish survived a lengthy VAR check for handball after Takehiro Tomiyasu had cancelled out Idrissa Gueye’s deflected free-kick in the first half.

The 89th-minute strike ensured a winning end to the campaign for Arsenal but they needed a City slip-up against West Ham to claim the title and it did not come.

The Gunners finish the campaign on 89 points, their second-highest total in Premier League history, but with a two-point gap to City. Everton, meanwhile, remain 15th.
