A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Jos, the Plateau State capital, has sentenced a 26-year-old man, Victor Jonah, to six months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone from a shop in the state.
The Magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced Jonah after he pleaded guilty to the charge on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
The prosecution counsel, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported at the ‘A’ Division Police Station by the complainant, Blessing John, on July 12.

The prosecutor said Jonah, a trader, went to the shop pretending to buy something and stole the Itel phone valued at N10,000.
The offence, according to him, is punishable under the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
The magistrate, however, gave the convict an option to pay N5,000 or three months in prison and also a compensation of N15,000 or another three months in default.
