President Bola Tinubu will meet with the Organised Labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), in Abuja on Thursday, July 11, 2024, to continue discussions on a new minimum wage for workers in the country.
A labour source disclosed on Wednesday, July 10, that Tinubu has invited the NLC and TUC leadership to the meeting expected to be held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The president is expected to make a decision on the N62,000 proposal of the government and private sector side as well as the N250,000 demand of the Organised Labour.
The Thursday meeting is coming about a month after President Tinubu said in his Democracy Day speech on June 12 that an executive bill on the new national minimum wage for workers would soon be sent to the National Assembly for passage.

“In this spirit, we have negotiated in good faith and with open arms with Organised Labour on a new national minimum wage. We shall soon send an executive bill to the National Assembly to enshrine what has been agreed upon as part of our law for the next five years or less.
“In the face of Labour’s call for a national strike, we did not seek to oppress or crack down on the workers as a dictatorial government would have done. We chose the path of cooperation over conflict,” Tinubu had said.
The Labour had said its demand for the new national minimum wage remained N250,000.
The Labour said this after the federal government offered N62,000 as the new minimum wage at the end of the tripartite committee meeting involving the Organised Private Sector (OPS).
The unions stressed that they would not accept the federal government’s offer of N62,000 and the N100,000 minimum wage proposal by some individuals in the country.
