Aggrieved mob has killed and set ablaze the body of a female student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State over alleged blasphemy.
The female student, identified as Deborah Yakubu, was said to have been burnt to death by her colleagues for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The students, in mob outrage, traced the female student and killed her as well as burnt the corpse at the school security gate after overpowering the school securities.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning.
Police have arrested two students over their alleged involvement in the killing of their colleague.
The Sokoto State Police Command, while reacting to the incident via a statement issued by its spokesman, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, said two students of the college have been arrested in connection with the killing of Deborah.
Abubakar disclosed that the students forcefully removed the victim from the security room of the college where she was hidden by the school authorities, killed her, and razed the building.
However, the management of the College has ordered the immediate closure of the school and directed all the students to vacate the campus.

The management of the school gave the directive via a circular dated May 12, 2022.
It read: “Following today’s early morning Students rampage in the College, the College Management has resolved to close down the College indefinitely with immediate effect. Consequently, all students are hereby directed to vacate the College campus immediately (12th May, 2022).”
Addressing a news conference, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Isa Bajini-Galadunci, confirmed the student’s death and said the state government had ordered immediate closure of the school.
Bajini-Galadunci said Governor Aminu Tambuwal had directed the Ministry of Higher Education and other relevant agencies to commence investigation into the incident and report back to the state government.
The Commissioner said Tambuwal urged citizens to remain calm and law abiding, assuring them that appropriate action would be taken after the investigation.
NAN reports that combined security operatives were deployed to the college as students were seen evacuating the campus.
