The operatives of the Osun State Police Command have arrested a 29-year-old commercial motorcyclist for allegedly raping and robbing his passenger of her valuables in the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, disclosed this while parading the motorcyclist and other suspects at the state police headquarters in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

Opalola said the suspect, who operated in the Ile-Ife area of Osun State, picked up a female passenger at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) campus area to Moro town and allegedly robbed and raped her along the way.

She said: “On July 26, at about 7:05 p.m., the complainant engaged the services of a commercial motorcyclist (names withheld) from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) campus, Ile–Ife to Moro Town.

“On getting to RCC Junction along Ilesa/Ibadan Expressway, Ile-Ife, the suspect diverted into a nearby bush and robbed her of her iPhone XS Max valued at N320,000, Samsung Galaxy A71 valued at N150,000, and Airtel Wi-Fi valued N10,000.”

The police spokesperson stated that the motorcyclist also stole the cash of N20,000 from the passenger before he forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

Opalola added: “The suspect also cut her pubic hair, armpit hair, and head hair, and threatened to kill her if she reported the incident to anyone.

“The victim was taken to the Police Hospital, Osogbo, for assessment and treatment. The suspect was later arrested and confessed to perpetrating this heinous act.

“The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.”

Opalola further stated that the command’s operatives arrested a suspect who resides in Lagos State in connection with a minibus that was allegedly stolen in Lagos but brought to Osun State to be dismantled.

She said the police also arrested a suspected member of the Black Axe/Aye confraternity for allegedly terrorising Osogbo and its environs with his gang.

Opalola said the suspect was arrested after he allegedly robbed a store in Osogbo and inflicted injuries on the shop owner and his customers before stealing two iPhones.

The police spokesperson added that all the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
