A High Court sitting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Thursday, sentenced a 29-year-old motorcyclist, Jamiu Adegesin, to life imprisonment for raping a 21-year-old woman in the state.
Adegesin, who had pleaded not guilty to a one-count charge of rape, was convicted for forcefully having sexual intercourse with the 21-year-old woman.
Delivering judgement, the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, held that all evidences presented before the court by the prosecution was tenable and found the convict guilty as charged.
Justice Dipeolu consequently sentenced Adegesin to life imprisonment.
The prosecution, Chief State Counsel, Oluwaseni Ogunjimi, had earlier told the court during trial that the convict committed the offence on August 18, 2018, at Temidare Sabo area in Abeokuta.

Ogunjimi said the convict forcefully had sexual intercourse without the victim’s consent.
According to her, the convict, who is a commercial motorcyclist, picked up the victim from Lafenwa area while she was coming back from her workplace in the evening.
She said the convict ordered the victim to board his motorcycle and took her to one of his friends’ house.
She added that while the convict and the victim got to the house, Adegesin threatened the victim with a broken bottle and also strangled her neck with a threat to kill her before he forcefully raped her.
The prosecution counsel said the offence committed contravened the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.
