The Nigerian Air Force has debunked reports that a helicopter belonging to the NAF crashed in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The NAF disclosed that the incident was not a helicopter crash, saying one of its drones experienced a mishap after take-off for a mission around Rumji Village in Kaduna on Monday, July 1, 2024.
The NAF made this known via a statement issued by its spokesperson, AVM Edward Gabkwet.
Gabkwet noted that there were no casualties on board since it was a drone, adding that a preliminary investigation has commenced to ascertain the cause of the incident.

He assured Nigerians that the minor setback would not, in any way, affect all ongoing operations.
The NAF spokesman further warned against hasty reports on the issue, saying while the news of the crash filtered in, some media outlets misinformed Nigerians that a helicopter had crashed without the decency to clarify from the NAF.
Gabkwet stated: “This attitude should be discouraged as it negates the principle of developmental journalism, balanced reporting, and fairness.
“Members of the media are again advised to always seek clarification from authorised military outlets before rushing to ‘break’ the news.”
