NDLEA arrests 70-year-old man for drug dealing, raids enclave in Lagos

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 70-year-old man, Ado Mai Unguwa, with 143.2kgs skunk in Dindere village, Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The 70-year-old man was arrested by the NDLEA officers on Saturday, September 30, 2023.

The spokesperson of the anti-drug agency, Femi Babafemi, made this known in a statement issued on Sunday, October 1.

He disclosed that the NDLEA operatives also recovered 110.6kgs of skunk from a locked-up shop at Aria new market in Enugu State on Saturday, September 30.

Babafemi added that the anti-narcotics officers, on Friday, September 29, intercepted a container truck with registration number BD G41 XM coming from Lagos to Kano in the Gwagwalada area of Abuja.

The NDLEA spokesman noted that 1,188 kilograms of skunk loaded at Owo, Ondo State, and hidden under cartons of toothpaste were recovered from the truck, saying the truck driver, Amafan Fattison, was arrested.

He said the NDLEA officers in Bayelsa State, on September 27, seized 432kgs of the same substance from an abandoned J5 bus along Saipem road, Opolo, Yenagoa, the state capital, noting that the vehicle was equally recovered from the scene for further investigation.

Babafemi added that the operatives of the anti-drug agency in Lagos stormed the notorious Idi-Oro drug enclave in the Mushin of Lagos where they seized 212.5kgs of cannabis sativa belonging to a wanted drug lord on Saturday, September 30.

He stated that the NDLEA officers also recovered 104kgs of skunk from a Toyota Camry car in the Offa area of Kwara State.

While commending the officers of the anti-drug agency for the arrests and seizures, the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), equally praised their counterparts across the country for ensuring a fair balance between their drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.
