The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 48-year-old physically-challenged man, Amadu Garba, with six bags of cannabis weighing 67kg at Yawuri in Kebbi State.

The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, July 21, 2024.

Babafemi stated that the physically-challenged man was arrested in his house at Yawuri on Tuesday, July 16.

He said two suspects, 60-year-old Ademola Elusakin and 34-year-old Nuhu Friday Adamu, were arrested by NDLEA operatives with 30.0kg of cannabis along the Kwali-Gwagwalada expressway in Abuja on their way from Lagos to Nasarawa State on Monday, July 15.

He noted that Elusakin claimed he procured the consignment from Ghana via Lagos with Keffi in Nasarawa State as his final destination, where they were to supply illegal miners operating in the area.

Babafemi revealed that 305 blocks of cannabis weighing 152.5kg were also recovered from a 39-year-old suspect, Sale Bukar, who was arrested at Geidam in Yobe State on Sunday, July 14, while taking the illicit consignment to Diffa in Niger Republic.

Babafemi added that a 43-year-old suspect, Aham Regal Chinemeze, was nabbed with 60kg of the same substance along the Owerri-Onitsha expressway in Imo State on Thursday, July 18.

The NDLEA spokesman said 24-year-old Adamu Abdullahi was equally arrested with 40.500kg of the same substance along the Obajana-Kabba expressway in Kogi State on Wednesday, July 17.

He disclosed that the consignment was recovered from the suspect in a commercial bus coming from Lagos en route Kano.

Babafemi stated that 38kg of cannabis and a locally made AK-47 rifle were recovered from the home of a 32-year-old suspect, Christopher Ombugadu, in the Akwanga area of Nasarawa State during a raid on Sunday, July 14.

Commending the anti-narcotic officers for the arrests and seizures, the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), noted that their operational successes and those of their compatriots across the country are well appreciated.

Marwa urged them not to rest on their oars but to continue to intensify ongoing drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.
