NDLEA recovers 143.8m tramadol pills, London-bound cocaine in Lagos

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have recovered 143.8 million pills of tramadol (225mg) which were mixed with cartons of sweets imported from India in Lagos State.

The pills of tramadol were intercepted on Friday, March 31 after the NDLEA operatives alongside Customs officers conducted a joint examination of two containers marked TRHU 4758549 and TRHU 6936803.

This was disclosed via a statement issued on Sunday, April 2 by the NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.

Babafemi stated that the officers of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigations (DOGI), NDLEA, also intercepted at a courier firm a cargo of 1.5kg cocaine concealed in a carton declared to contain hair cream, shampoo, hair rollers, and burners going to London, the United Kingdom.

He stated that the anti-narcotic officers, on Monday, March 27 raided Dan Wata village in Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State and arrested a 33-year-old man, Abdurrashid Musa, with 142.8kg cannabis, noting that the principal suspect, Ibro Danwata, is still at large.

The NDLEA spokesperson added that another 35-year-old suspect, Shamsu Abdullahi, fondly called Waja, was also arrested the previous day during a follow-up operation at Rigasa Kaduna, after he had abandoned 80,000 tablets of Diazepam weighing 13.4kg and escaped arrest earlier.

Babafemi further disclosed that the operatives of the anti-drug agency, on Friday, March 31 recovered 63 bags of Cannabis Sativa weighing 600kg and stored in a house at Okpe village in Akoko-Edo LGA of Edo State.

He said a raid of a warehouse owned by one Shehi Mallam at tomatoes market, Dei Dei in Abuja, on Friday led to the seizure of 80 sacks of cannabis weighing 842.4 kilograms.

The NDLEA spokesman noted that 12,000 pills of tramadol (225mg) were seized from a 46-year-old female passenger, Talatu Sale Adamu, on Monday, March 27 when the anti-narcotic officers intercepted the commercial bus she was travelling in along Ogoja/Katsina-Ala road in Cross River State.

“While a suspect, Abraham Alaigwu was arrested at Slaughter, Trans/Amadi area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State with 91.7kg of cannabis on Thursday 30th March, 228kg of same substance was seized from Ayodele Osuya, 35, in a Toyota Camry car around Quarter Guard area of Akure, Ondo State,” Babafemi added.

In his reaction, the NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the officers of the anti-drug agency for their resilience, professionalism, and excellent synergy with other security agencies in their areas of responsibility.

Marwa also charged the NDLEA operatives and their colleagues across the country to continue to raise the bar in their daily attainments.
