Nestle Nigeria Plc has inaugurated hygiene facilities in some schools in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Mr. Ayodele Ayookere, the Abaji Nestle Factory Manager, disclosed this at the commissioning of the projects on Tuesday, in Abuja, citing Abaji West Primary School and LEA Primary School as the beneficiaries.
Ayookere said that the aim of the initiative was to improve the quality of life of the pupils in the schools.
The facilities inaugurated included toilets, solar powered boreholes, generator and the rehabilitation of a three-blocks of classrooms at Abaji South.
Ayookere further said that the company had commissioned a solar powered borehole in Manerigi community in the council area.
Earlier, Mr. Muhammed Shehu of the Local Education Authority (LEA), Abaji, appreciated the management of Nestle Nigeria, for the projects, while observing the impact of poor drainage in the area.
“We need more of this, but this time not only rehabilitation but construction of new ones, so that we can be here to commission it once again.”
The Chairman, FCT Universal Basic Education Board, Mr Suleiman Hassan, commended Nestle Nigeria for its contributions to the education sector in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), especially for its social responsibility activities in Abaji community, since 2014.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiary schools, Mrs. Musa Rabitu, Head Mistress, LEA Primary School, Abaji South, appreciated Nestle Plc for all the projects.
“We are one of the primary schools in Abaji Area Council that is lacking classrooms. We still have more blocks that are needed to be rehabilitated.
“We have a population of almost 1,120 pupils and we only have 10 classes that are accommodating this number. Almost 100 pupils in one class and as you can see, it’s not convenient.
“And with this pandemic, we are suffering. We need about 26 classrooms for now, but we are only managing 10 classes for this population,” Rabitu said.
