The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has urged political office holders in the country to emulate Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in getting medical treatment in Nigeria, to help end medical tourism which has been a great worry in the sector.
The NMA President, Dr Uche Ojinmah, made the call via a statement issued on Monday.
Osinbajo had undergone a surgical procedure at Duchess International Hospital in Ikeja, Lagos State, on Saturday, to treat recurrent pain caused by a fracture in his leg.
Ojinmah, however, stressed that the time was ripe to fix the nation’s fragile healthcare system to the benefit of the common man and the economy.

He said: “NMA wishes to thank God for seeing our Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo through surgery. All Nigerian Doctors are praying for his quick and complete recovery.
“NMA hereby also commends Mr. Vice President for demonstrating confidence in the Nigerian Doctor and Healthcare system.
“We are certain that he was impressed. We call on other political office holders in Nigeria to emulate the Vice President and end medical tourism.”
