The Osun State High Court has sentenced Adedeji Adesola, the receptionist at the Hilton Hotels in Ile-Ife where the former postgraduate student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Timothy Adegoke, died to two years imprisonment.
The presiding judge, Justice Adepele Ojo, sentenced Adesola to two years imprisonment on Wednesday, May 31.
The prosecution counsel from Femi Falana Chambers, Fatima Adebayo, had, on Tuesday, urged the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing the hotel receptionist.
Delivering judgement, the judge said: “I have considered the passionate plea of the 7th defendant and the submission of the prosecution on the need to temper justice with mercy.
“I have observed and considered the sober disposition of the 7th defendant in court throughout the trial.

“I am equally mindful of the circumstances surrounding the case of the 7th defendant. I am not unmindful of the provisions of the Section 411 2(b) of the law.
“I hereby sentence you Adedeji Adesola to 2 years imprisonment starting from the first day of your arrest,” Justice Ojo declared.
Justice Ojo had, on Tuesday, sentenced has sentenced the hotel owner and the founder of Odua University in Ile-Ife, Dr Ramon Adedoyin, to death by hanging for the murder of Adegoke.
The three other defendants – Magdalene Chiefuna, Oluwale Lawrence, and Kunle Adebayo – were, however, discharged and acquitted.
Ojo, who is the Chief Judge of Osun State, also sentenced Kazeem Oyetunde and Adeniyi Aderogba to death by hanging for their involvement in the killing of the former master’s degree student.
