The Ogun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Niyi Ijalaye, has died after collapsing following a meeting at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja.
It was gathered that Ijalaye slumped and died on Monday evening.
The Ogun REC was said to have slumped after he returned to his hotel room, having attended a meeting earlier in the day.
The meeting presided over by INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu focused on the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States, as well as discussions on the seven vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies.
Ijalaye, an indigene of Ondo State, was said to have been in good spirits and actively participated in the discussions during the meeting.
His family and the Ogun State INEC office have however yet to speak on his demise as of press time.
