Canada has lifted the ban imposed on travels from 10 African countries — including Nigeria, over Omicron spread fear.
Canada’s Minster of Health, Jean-Yves Duclos, announced the lifting of the ban on Friday.
The Canadian government, about three weeks ago, banned 10 African countries — including Nigeria, from flying to their country following the detection of Omicron cases in the listed countries.
“While we recognise the controversial nature of such a prohibition, we believe it was a necessary measure to slow the arrival of Omicron in Canada and buy us some time,” Duclos said.
“Given the current situation, this measure has served its purpose and is no longer needed.”
The lifting of the ban will take effect from December 18.
Recall that the United Kingdom on Wednesday emptied its red list travel ban on 11 African countries including Nigeria over Omicron scare.
