Ondo Assembly begins deputy governor’s impeachment process

The Ondo State House of Assembly has commenced the impeachable process of the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, over alleged gross misconduct.

The House accused Aiyedatiwa of being involved in some acts of gross misconduct while in office as the acting governor.

He served as the acting governor while his principal, Rotimi Akeredolu, was in abroad for medical treatment.

The lawmakers, at the plenary session on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, directed the Clerk of the House, Benjamin Jaiyeola, to communicate to the deputy governor the allegations levelled against him.

The petition which has been signed by nine out of 26 members of the House was read during the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, on Wednesday.

Moving the motion, the House Majority Leader, Olamide Ogunmolasuyi (APC-Owo 1), quoted the 1999 Constitution to back up the need to write to the deputy governor over the allegation before the House.

Tope Agbulu (APC-Akoko South West 2) seconded the motion.

Meanwhile, a law to amend the Ondo State Law Commission (2006) to change the tenure of its members to part-time tenure of office, scaled through a second reading on Wednesday.

The law was committed to the House’s Committee on Judiciary for consideration.

The committee is expected to revert to the committee of the whole House later.
