The Ondo State House of Assembly has declared the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as the acting governor of the state.
The Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji, made the declaration while confirming the receipt of a letter from Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu requesting to proceed on medical leave in Germany on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.
Oladiji, in a statement, noted that the governor’s action was in line with Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

The Speaker said Aiyedatiwa would assume the responsibilities of the governor in acting capacity pending when Akeredolu communicates to the House his return to take up his duties.
He said the letter stipulated that the leave would commence on December 13.
Oladiji, who expressed appreciation to God for the speedy recovery of Akeredolu, expressed optimism that the governor would soon resume his duties.
Akeredolu had written a letter to the lawmakers to commence another medical leave as a follow-up to his medical treatment abroad.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, who made this known on Tuesday, December 12, said Akeredolu will prioritise his health and ensure full recovery before resuming his official duties.
Akeredolu had similarly in July written to the lawmakers to request medical leave and returned to the country on September 7.
