One dies, 7 injured in Balogun market fire

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says one body was recovered while seven persons were injured in the fire that engulfed Balogun Market in Lagos on Tuesday.

The Lagos Territorial Coordinator, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, made this known in Lagos on Tuesday.

Farinloye added that four persons were arrested for stealing valuables from shops in the market.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Adeseye Margaret, however, stated that the fire was under control.

Adeseye said that the fire started from the topmost floor of a five-storey building, adding that the cause of the inferno which started in the early hours of Tuesday remained unknown.

Emergency responders at the scene of the incident included officials from NEMA, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Fire Service, and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
