Osinbajo: S’West working to produce APC presidential candidate

Nigeria’s Vice President and presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has said that consultations are ongoing to ensure the South-West produces the presidential candidate of the ruling party ahead of the 2023 general election.

Osinbajo said he has no problem with consensus arrangement ahead of the party’s primaries to ensure the South-West produces the APC presidential candidate.

The Vice President said this while addressing APC delegates in Osun State at Government House, Oke-Fia, Osogbo, on Friday.

It would be recalled that the former interim national chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande, had on May 6 said the APC presidential aspirants from South-West, governors and other leaders have united ahead of the 2023 general election.

Akande, while addressing newsmen at the end of a meeting with presidential aspirants from the zone in Lagos, however,  urged party stalwarts and aspirants “to talk to themselves and the public with absolute decorum”.

According to the former governor of Osun State, the South-West APC leaders are united and will work to ensure that the 2023 presidency comes to the zone.

However, Osinbajo, who visited Osun State on Friday as part of his consultations ahead of the APC presidential primary election, said: “I believe very strongly in the wisdom of the Yoruba people and consultations are going on over the southwest to produce the next president. I believe very strongly that somehow, we will resolve whatever differences that we have. I have no problem with consensus agreement in APC ahead of the presidential primary so that the region can produce the next president.

“I pushed myself forward for the position of president of this country, I’ve done so because in the seven years that I served, I served faithfully to the president and he has responded by ensuring that I see everything that I need to see in government. I even acted as president several times.

“I have all that is required in terms of the knowledge and experience to govern this country. I believe very strongly that having that knowledge and experience, God gave to me for the benefit of Nigerians. I have worked every possible way to ensure victory, success and progress for our party.

“With the complexity of the Nigerian system, I have learnt for the past seven and with what I will still learn I can hit the ground running on day one if I am elected as the President. I don’t have to look for any fact because I am already equipped for the position.”

The Vice President had told party delegates in Owerri, the Imo State capital that the country has come to a point where Nigerians will take decisive decisions on what they want.

Addressing newsmen after a closed meeting with the delegates, Osinbajo added that if given the opportunity to be Nigeria’s president, he would address the issue of economy satisfactorily.
