Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has visited the  scene of the gas explosion which occurred in the Sabon Gari area of Kano State on Tuesday.

Osinbajo, who visited the scene of the explosion before meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC ) delegates on Tuesday, prior to the party’s presidential primary election, commiserated with the victims of the tragic incident.

The gas explosion, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, hit business areas on Aba Road in Sabon Gari Kano where schools and houses around the area were also touched.

The Star correspondent confirmed that houses and houses, including Winners School adjacent to the point of the explosion were affected.

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, however, said the state would take measures to regulate welding vocation in densely populated to avert future occurrence.

A resident of Fagge in Kano, Aminu Mohammed, who participated in the rescue operation, disclosed that no fewer than nine dead bodies were recovered.

“The explosion was around 10: am. Because there was no excavator immediately after the incident, we used hands and some light equipment to bring out the bodies,” he said.

Faggae added that some chemicals were found in shops that were badly damaged by the explosion which were handed over to security personnel.

A pastor, Mike Ajibola, whose church was a few metres away from the scene of the incident, said over 50 children from nearby Winners School, adjacent to the point of explosion, were rescued with a few injured.
