The governor arrived at the polling unit in company of his supporters and some members of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

Adeleke commended the State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for the peaceful process in the conduct of the election.

He also advised residents to go out and cast their vote without any fear of intimidation, urging political stakeholders and the electorate to shun violence during and after the local government election.

Adeleke expressed confidence that all PDP candidates would emerge victorious in the elections.

“I want to urge everyone to come out and cast their votes. The election will be peaceful,” the governor said.

Low turnout mars Osun LG election

Adeleke had on Friday declared that the local government election slated for Saturday will hold in the state.

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), had earlier advised Adeleke not to proceed with the election.

Fagbemi urged Adeleke to respect the Court of Appeal judgement which restored the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmen and councillors sacked in 2022 by the Federal High Court in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.

However, Adeleke, while speaking during a meeting with the delegation of the Civil Society Coalition in Osogbo on Friday, February 21, said the local government election would hold on Saturday.

Crisis erupted on Monday when PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) members were laying claim to local government secretariats across the state.

Police confirmed that six persons lost their lives while many others were injured during the crisis
