Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, one of the governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, has withdrawn from the party’s primaries slated for Tuesday.
He said the National Chairman of the opposition party, Dr. Iyorcha Ayu, has agreed to work with Senator Ademola Adeleke.
Addressing a news conference at his campaign office on Monday in Osogbo, Ogunbiyi said it was difficult for him to come to the conclusion of withdrawing from the primaries.
He said: “This decision became imperative in view of the fact that the process leading to the primary election is already skewed towards a predetermined outcome, despite the various presentations made to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party for a level playing ground for all the aspirants.
“As a consequence, I will not be participating in the primaries scheduled for Tuesday, 8th March 2022.
“We thought after we had used our prayers and everything we have to unseat Uche Secondus as our national chairman with the hope that Iyorchia Ayu will give us a good leadership, but he chooses to mingle with Adeleke’s family.
“Ayu has agreed to work with Ademola Adeleke and I have actually been told that I should not waste my money.

“We did everything possible but I can only come to the conclusion to withdraw from a race because up till this moment they are there planning on how they can execute their plan.
“I don’t want to put my numerous supporters at arms way and that was why I felt it is necessary for me to withdraw from the race.
“Whatever it is, I will get back to my supporters because at this moment take it that I, Dr. Akinade Ogunbiyi has done what I think is reasonable by withdrawing from participating in the PDP primary election coming up on Tuesday.”
Ogunbiyi was also one of the party’s aspirants during 2018 governorship primaries, but lost to Senator Ademola Adeleke.
