Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun, on Friday, said the peaceful nature of the state and its pedigree as an emerging business and investment destination have made it a point of huge attraction for businesses.
This, he attributed to his administration’s prioritization of inclusive good governance, and diversification of the economy since coming into office three years ago, adding that he was working hard to do even better.
This was just as Oyetola commended the addition of Fresh F.M. 104.9 radio station to the retinue of businesses operating in Osun State.
Oyetola, speaking during the inauguration of the radio station, also lauded the media as critical stakeholders in the building of Osun, adding that the media have performed their roles as the organ statutorily empowered to hold government accountable in the interest of good governance and the people.
Oyetola, speaking through the Secretary to the State Government of Osun, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, also commended the media for professionally and responsibly conveying the activities and programmes of the government to the people.
“Fresh FM 104.9 is a welcome addition to the galaxy of media organizations that have provided information, education and entertainment for the people in Osun.
“The media have been critical stakeholders in the building of the State of Osun since founding and have performed their role as the organ statutorily empowered to hold government accountable in the interest of good governance and the people. You have professionally and responsibly conveyed our activities and programmes to the people. This is the family we welcome Fresh FM 104.9 into,” Oyetola said.
He, however, charged the management of the station to demonstrate the highest level of journalism ethics and professionalism, including, fairness, balance, accuracy, integrity and responsibility.
He urged the station to perform its role in the national interest and the public good so that it can compete in the rich and conducive environment that Osun provides, while making government responsive and responsible to the people.
He continued: “Osun has a huge population of citizens with varying interests. The state also has a rich climate for generating news and feature, including economy, politics, culture, tradition, tourism, business and investment.
“Fresh FM 104.9 must make efforts to explore these rich areas for the listening pleasure of its audience and its profitability.
“Government will not shirk its responsibility of providing a conducive atmosphere, including security and an atmosphere for free speech for media organizations in the state to operate and flourish.
“Our administration has prioritized inclusive good governance and diversification of the economy since coming into office three years ago and we are working hard to do even better.
“I urge you to continue to be our partners and friends in this avowed resolve to transform the economy and improved better life for our people,” Oyetola added.
Earlier in his remark, the General Manager of Fresh F.M. Osogbo, Mr.u Akinkunmi Alabi, commended the friendly atmosphere that Osun provides, assuring of the Station’s readiness to partner with the government in ensuring the development of the State.
The Ataoja of Osogboland, Oba Jimoh Olaonipekun, commended the Station’s choice of establishing in Osogboland, adding that the station’s presence will no doubt impact the economic fortunes of Osogbo.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Prince Gboyega Famodun; APC Women Wing Coordinator, Alhaja Kudirat Fakokunde; Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Chief Sunday Akere; and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Ismail Omipidan; expressed optimism that the addition of Fresh FM into the family of media organisations in Osun will enhance the commendable profiles of the state.
They charged the station to report their observations within the limits of objectivity and ethical practice.
