Passengers stranded as NLC, TUC members block Abuja airport

Scores of passengers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja were stranded on Thursday, November 9, 2023, following a protest by the members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The protest is coming after the recent alleged attack on the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, in Imo State.

The labour unions later declared an immediate industrial action in Imo State and fixed November 14 to commence a nationwide strike.

The NLC and TUC members, on Thursday, blocked the entrance of the Abuja airport as many vehicles transporting air travellers to the airport were trapped outside, leaving the passengers stranded.

One of the passengers, Siraj Abubakar, told newsmen that the members of the labour unions stopped vehicles from gaining entrance into the airport at about 8:30 a.m.

“They stopped us from entering the airport at about 8:30 a.m. They said they are protesting against the maltreatment of the NLC President in Imo State and I wonder how that affects us here in Abuja,” Abubakar said.

Meanwhile, the airport authority has yet to speak on the development as of the time of filing this report.
