Police arrest 22 for alleged thuggery, criminality in Niger

The operatives of the Niger State Police Command have arrested no fewer than 22 suspects for alleged thuggery and criminality in the state.

The suspects, who were paraded at the command’s headquarters in Minna, the Niger State capital on Friday, were arrested by a combined team of police operatives in the state.

This was disclosed via a statement issued and made available to The Star on Friday by the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun.

Abiodun stated that the areas raided by the police include Angwan-Daji, Angwan-Kanawa, Limawa, Maitumbi, Barkin-Sale, and Makera areas of Bosso and Chanchaga Local Government Areas of Niger State.

The suspects arrested by the police operatives include Umaru Ibrahim, aged 20; Abba Adamu, aged 29; Nuhu Alhassan, aged 20; Abubakar Ahmed, aged 21; Abubakar Mohammed, aged 16; and Lukman Isah, aged 21.

Others are Danjuma Musa, aged 36; Philimon Ishaku, aged 17; Aminu Hassan, aged 20; ThankGod Sunday, aged 19; Ayuba Timothy, aged 18; Danjuma Musa Haruna, aged 18; Abdulkarim Mohammed, aged 17; and Kabiru Usman, aged 23.

Others include Usman Isah, aged 19; Musa Yusuf, aged 21; Kabiru Yahaya, aged 18; Masa’udu Yunusa, aged 16; Inyas Musa, aged 21; Nasiru Abdullahi, aged 21; Musa Suleiman, aged 21; and Jabir Suleiman, aged 18.

According to the police spokesperson, items recovered from the suspects include one saw, seven cutlasses, eight wraps of cannabis, one scissors, two knives, sticks, and a bottle containing illicit substances.

Abiodun, however, reiterated the commitment of the command to “explore the administration of criminal justice system and partners the judiciary towards a diligent prosecution of the suspects arrested with reference to previous criminal records of each suspect.”

The police spokesperson urged the general public to cooperate with the police and other security agencies towards achieving a crime-free environment in the state.

Abiodun assured that the command will not relent in its efforts to ensure that miscreants who specialise in disturbance of public peace, especially Minna metropolis are effectively dealt with.
