Police arrest 3 for producing counterfeit currency in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three persons for alleged production of counterfeit currency in the state.

The arrested suspects are 25-year-old Yusuf Mohammed, 42-year-old Shehu Shagari, and 25-year-old Rabi’u Sama’ila.

The Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Wakil, disclosed this via a statement issued on Wednesday.

Wakil stated that one of the suspects, Mohammed, was arrested on August 21, 2022, around Ogbunna Hotel in Bayan Gari area of Bauchi with N75,0000 counterfeit currency.

“The suspect revealed that he got the counterfeit notes from one Shehu Shagari ‘m’ 42yrs of Inkil area of Bauchi who is equally at police facility for his involvement in the case. As the investigation continues, the said Shehu Shagari indicted one Malam Yusuf ‘m’ of Durum village of Bauchi now at large who is believed to be a prime suspect.

“Later, an investigation was extended on a search warrant to his house at Durum village where another suspect Rabiu Samaila ‘m’ 35yrs of Durum village was apprehended at the house while producing counterfeit naira notes,” he said.

The police spokesman added that items recovered from the suspects include one 3-in-1 black printer and N75, 000, five calabashes containing charms, 22 perfume bottles, one dried chameleon, one piece of white yard, and 14 pieces of printed naira notes on A4 size paper.

“Surveillance is intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect and brought to face the full wrath of the law,” Wakil stated.

He added that the police also arrested four suspected kidnappers in Misau Local Government Council of Bauchi State.

The police spokesperson said: “Following a complaint lodged by one Alh Adamu Juji ‘m’ of Zadawa village, Misau LG Bauchi stated that on 21 August 2022 at about 1000hrs he received a kidnap threat through a phone call from an unknown person and demanded the sum N1 million from him otherwise they would kidnap him.

“However, on 24th August 2022 at about 0600hrs the detectives attached to Misau Divisional Police Headquarters valiantly swung into action and tracked down the following suspects. Name; Ilu Wakili ‘m’ aged 30yrs, Abubakar Bello ‘m’ aged 30yrs, Muhammed Bello ‘m’ aged 37yrs and Hussaini Abdullahi ‘m’ aged 38yrs both of Zadawa village Misau LGA of Bauchi.”

Wakil noted that the arrested suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation, adding that the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda, has directed that the suspects be charged to court upon the completion of an investigation.
