Policeman commits suicide in Niger State

An officer of the Niger State Police Command, ASP Shafi’u Usman Bawa, has committed suicide in the Kontagora area of the state.

The command’s spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident on Monday, February 10, 2025.

Abidoun disclosed that the policeman committed suicide on Saturday, February 8.

He said Bawa committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling.

Abiodun said the incident was reported by the policeman’s father, Usman Bawa, a resident of the Rigasa area in Kontagora.

He stated that the police officer was taken to the General Hospital, Kontagora, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.

The police spokesperson added that the corpse was released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Abiodun said the police were investigating the incident to ascertain the reason behind Bawa’s action, adding that further development on the incident would be communicated in due course.
