A pupil has been confirmed dead while several others were injured in a building collapse at the Eghereka Primary School in Ewu, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was gathered that the school building collapsed on Friday, October 4, 2024.
Confirming the incident, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said the school building collapsed while pupils were walking past it.
Edafe disclosed that one pupil, Ojiyovwin Salvation, was confirmed dead while several others sustained various degrees of injuries.
Meanwhile, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has condoled with the family of the pupil who died in the building collapse.
The governor’s commiseration was contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon.

Oborevwori, who described the incident as unfortunate, said: “We have just received a report of an unfortunate incident of the collapse of a block of six classrooms without a roof, which has not been in use for over a decade at Eghereka Primary School, Ewu Town, in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.
“The dilapidated building collapsed under the heavy rain, whereby a Primary 2 pupil, Ojiyovwin Salvation, unfortunately, lost his life, while three others were injured.
“I commiserate with the family of the deceased pupil, the management and staff of the school, as well as other pupils injured in the unfortunate incident.”
He further commended the prompt efforts that led to the quick rescue of the injured pupils.
Oborevwori added that the Ughelli South Local Government Chairman, Lucky Avweromre, has visited the scene to provide necessary support to the surviving victims of the building collapse and also visited the family of the deceased.
