The Federal Government has reportedly sacked the acting Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Chukwuyere Anamekwe.
Although the removal has not been made official by the Federal Government, it was gathered that Anamekwe was replaced two weeks ago with a former Director of Treasury Single Account (TSA), Mr. Okolieaboh Ezeoke Sylvis.
It was further learnt that Anamekwe’s replacement followed allegations that he was being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
It was gathered that the acting AGF was sacked, following his controversial statement that government was borrowing to pay salaries.
According to The Nation, a source disclosed that the Federal Government has initiated search for a new AGF.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Folasade Yemi-Esan, has, however, directed permanent secretaries to forward details of eligible directors on Grade 17 to her on or before 4:00 pm on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.

Yemi-Esan gave the directive via a memo titled, ‘Commencement of the process of appointment of a substantive Accountant-General of the Federation’.
The memo stated the qualification of level 17 officers qualified for the position.
“Those who have attained the position of Substantive Director (Grade 17) on or before January 1, 2020 and are not retiring from the service earlier than December 31, 2024 are eligible to participate in the selection process while officers undergoing disciplinary proceedings are excluded,” it read.
The Star recalls that the Federal Government, on May 22, 2022, appointed Anamekwe as acting AGF pending the outcome of EFCC investigation of the suspended AGF, Ahmad Idris.
Idris was later suspended indefinitely by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed.
The minister stated that the suspension was to allow for “proper and unhindered investigation” in line with public service rules.
The suspension came two days after Idris was arrested by the EFCC over an alleged N80 billion fraud.
He was later released by the anti-graft agency.
