The House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence, on Tuesday, commenced investigation into the attack on the Kuje Medium Security Correctional Centre in Abuja.
The attack which occurred on July 5 led to the escape of no fewer than 879 inmates.
The chairman of the committee, Sha’aban Saraba, who made this known in Abuja on Tuesday, said the House resolution to investigate the attack was sequel to a motion moved at plenary.
Saraba said the House, in July, inaugurated a joint committee on national security in the wake of the attack to investigate and come up with a possible recommendation that would forestall a re-occurrence.

He stated that the committee would ascertain the roles played by security and intelligence agencies in the security breach and proffer ways to mitigate against reoccurrence.
He noted that the concerned security agencies have many questions to answer as regards the security breach that caused the Federal Government great embarrassment.
Saraba said the development was to ascertain the circumstances under which it was carried out in a bid to address the country’s security challenges.
He, however, urged the intelligence community and security agencies to provide useful information for the success of the national assignment.
Scores of terrorists, on July 5, launched a daring attack on the facility and bombed their way in, and released 879 inmates, including 64 with terror-related charges.
The Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist group had claimed responsibility for the attack.
