Rivers poll: AA wins Etche LG chairmanship

The Action Alliance (AA) has won the chairmanship position of Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, following Saturday’s local government election in the state.

The Chairman of Rivers State Independent National Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Adolphus Enebeli, declared this in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Sunday, October 6, 2024.

Enebeli added that the Action Peoples Party (APP) clinched all the 19 councillorship seats in Etche LGA.

The RSIEC chairman had, on Saturday, October 5, declared that the APP won 22 of the 23 chairmanship positions contested in the local government election.

APP wins 22 chairmanship seats in Rivers LG election

Enebeli, who described the election as free and fair, said the winner of the chairmanship seats secured two-third majority votes in their respective wards across the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

“Results for 19 Wards in Etche LGA are still being collated, while the results for the 319 councillorship positions across the 23 LGAs will be announced in due course,” he had said.

Enebeli further stated that elections were conducted in all the 6,866 units in 319 Wards, noting that 18 of the 19 political parties participated.

“The elections, which concluded at 3 p.m., recorded a significant voter turnout, with many defying the rain to cast their ballots,” the RSIEC chairman added.
