Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has presented the N10 million pledged by him to the best graduating student for the 2021/2022 set in Lagos State University (LASU), Aminat Yusuf.
Sanwo-Olu made the presentation during a meeting with the student alongside her parents, Ibrahim Yusuf and Hajia Halimah, at the State House in Marina, Lagos State, on Thursday, July 6, 2023.
The governor, while speaking at LASU’s 26th convocation ceremony held recently in Lagos, announced a N5 million personal donation for the student and another N5 million from the Lagos State Government.
Yusuf, who hails from Edo State, graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.00 from the Department of Law.
Sanwo-Olu told the student that the academic feat had thrusted the responsibility of a role model on her, charging the valedictorian to use her voice and fame to promote scholarship among young people in vulnerable communities.

The governor said Yusuf’s academic achievement had further validated Lagos’ profile as the Centre of Excellence, stressing that his administration would continue to do its best in preserving quality education in the state-owned universities.
He further enjoined the student to sustain her brilliance and aim for excellence in her future endeavour.
When Governor Sanwo-Olu asked if she had the plan to repeat the feat at the Law School, Yusuf said: “I will do my best.”
The student also told Sanwo-Olu that her parents played a significant role in her personal development and the feat attained.
She said: “Since my primary school days, my parents have shown unrelenting commitment to my personal development and that of my siblings.
“They trained us to always aim for the best, while they did their best to provide everything we need. They are involved at every level of my academic journey; making them proud is my way of paying back the support they have given me.”
