Security operatives have dispersed #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters in the Karu area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
It was gathered that the security operatives fired tear gas at the protesters and arrested three of the demonstrators on Monday, August 5, 2024.
It was learnt that the protesters were just assembling in the area when security agents dispersed them and arrested three.
“Our people were just coming out and the police and other security operatives started tear-gassing us and arrested some of our people. We know of three for now,” one of the protesters, Yahaya Abdullahi, told reporters in Abuja on Monday.
The Star had earlier reported that the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested one of the leaders of the ongoing protest in Abuja, Micheal Lenin.
DSS arrests protest leader in Abuja
It was gathered that the DSS arrested Lenin, who is the National Coordinator of the Youth Rights Campaign, at his residence in the Apo area of Abuja at about 2 a.m. on Monday.
President Bola Tinubu, in a nationwide address on Sunday, urged protesters to suspend the 10-day protest which commenced on August 1 and embrace dialogue.
Tinubu said: “Under the circumstances, I enjoin protesters and the organisers to suspend any further protest and create room for dialogue which I have always acceded to, at the slightest opportunity.
“Nigeria requires all hands on deck and needs us all – regardless of age, party, tribe, religion or other divides – to work together in reshaping our destiny as a nation.”
