Former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The defection of Shekarau to NNPP was disclosed by the former Director General of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s Support Group, AbdulMumin Jibrin, via a series of tweets on his Twitter handle.
Jibrin stated: “BREAKING- Sen Ibrahim Shekarau joins NNPP. Details later.
“Game over! Welcome to NNPP, Sen Ibrahim Shekarau.”
The defection was also announced by the NNPP via its official Twitter handle on Tuesday night.
“Finally: Sen Ibrahim Shekarau join us.
“His Excellency Engr Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso paid a congratulatory visit today to former Gov (Sen) Ibrahim Shekarau after he decamped to NNPP,” the party stated.
The Star had reported that a former governor of Kano State and leader of the NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, paid a visit to Shekarau at his residence in Kano.

It was gathered that the meeting held on Sunday afternoon was part of moves to ensure Shekarau join forces with Kwankwaso in the same party.
The visit came after efforts from the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, and presidency to pacify Shekarau to abandon his planned defection failed.
This is the first time the two Kano political heavyweights (Shekarau and Kwankwaso) will go to poll in the same political party.
Shekarau, who represents Kano Central in the Senate, was a two-term governor of Kano State.
The 66 year-old senator was a former Minister of Education.
