The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested six persons for allegedly killing a 90-year-old man, Muhammad Riskuwa.

The suspects also carted away over N430,000 cash belonging to the deceased.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Sunusi Abubakar, said one Shehu Mamman of Zangon Atti village in Gwadabawa LGA of Sokoto State reported at the police division that while he was moulding blocks with his father, they were attacked by a group of vigilante men armed with cutlasses, sticks and guns.

Mamman said that the attackers accosted them and in the process one of vigilantes shot his father dead, ransacked their house and made away with the sum of N430,000.

He said the suspects also set their house ablaze with his father who was burnt beyond recognition.

The police said after a full-scale investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), it was discovered at preliminary stage that the said Shehu Mamman who recognized some of the assailants led the investigation team to the arrest of Aliyu Abdulrazak and Rabi’u Abdullahi, all members of the outlawed vigilante that carried out the attacks.

Their arrest and their confessions, according to the police, led to the arrest of other key suspects that took part in the commission of the crimes.

Others arrested are: Mustapha Yakubu, Abdul’aziz Suleiman, Abdulbasiru Alhaji Idi and Isah Musa.

The suspects are all residents of the same address.

Police said the suspects have confessed to the crime; killing the victim and setting his house and corpse ablaze.
