The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) says it has certified companies to ensure they maintain certain standard before their products are released in circulation to uplift public wellbeing.
The SON Director General, Malam Faruk Salim, made this known while presenting certificates of Mandatory Conformity Assessment Program (MANCAP) to 12 companies operating in Kano State on Tuesday.
Salim, who was represented by the SON Regional Director, Mr Albert Wilberforce, said the certification was not a “cash and carry” exercise, rather a scientific approach to ensure all facets of production were compiled with relevant standard.
He noted that the exercise was also a national certificate scheme that ensure all local products complied with relevant national industrial standard prior to display in Nigerian Markets.
The SON DG, however, called on Nigerians to patronise ‘Made in Nigeria goods’ to help boost the economy and create employment.
On his part, the SON Kano State coordinator, Kasssim Muhammed-Yahaya, said the programme was a continuous inspection and correction overtime to ensure conformity to standard.

Also speaking at the event, the Director Administration of the Kano State Consumer Protection Council, Sambo Iliyasu, said the council will continue to partner with SON in making companies to produce standard products in Kano.
A representative of the companies issued with the certificate, Ibrahim Muhammed, applauded SON for the certificate and promised to improve their products.
Muhammed urged those certified to ensure that the products of good standard and quality are produced to improve the nation’s economy.
