A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, sentenced a 24-year-old student, David Odiwe, to six months imprisonment for trespass and stealing from a woman’s house.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported at the ‘B’ Division Police Station in Jos by one Aisha Salish on September 19.

Gokwat said the student trespassed into the woman’s house and stole items including a Tablet pad valued at N155,000, shoes worth N80,000, a phone valued at N80,000, and a wristwatch worth N20,000.

“During police investigation, the wristwatch was recovered from him,” he said.

Gokwat added that the offence contravened the Plateau State Penal Code Law.

The Magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the student after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Bokkos, however, gave Odiwe a fine option of N50,000 fine or six months in prison.

Bokkos also the convict to pay a compensation of N300,000 or spend another 18 months in prison.
