A yet-to-be-ascertained number of students have been trapped in a two-storey school building collapse at Saint Academy in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
The building which housed classrooms and offices collapsed while the students were writing their third term examination on Friday, July 12, 2024.
It was gathered that the ground floor contains mainly Junior Secondary School One (JSS1) students, while the senior students are on the top floors.
Rescue operations were ongoing by the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

Speaking on the incident, the Executive Secretary of Plateau SEMA, Sunday Abdu, said the agency has mobilised its personnel and relevant agencies to the scene for emergency rescue efforts.
Abdu said the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) officers and others were at the scene with earth-moving equipment to remove the debris and rescue the students.
The Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Eugene Nyelong, also stated that the number of casualties would be ascertained on completion of recuse operations.
Some rescued victims were rushed to different hospitals by ambulances of various organisations, including the FRSC, NEMA, Red Cross, Nigerian Army, and police, among others.
