The Triune Biblical University in New York, United States, has conferred the Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, well known as Sunday Igboho, with an honorary doctorate degree in war and peace studies.

Igboho disclosed this via his Instagram page on Tuesday.

Sharing the certificate and pictures from the event, the Yoruba secessionist leader, who received the certificate in Cotonou, Benin Republic, wrote: “Congratulations to me as I was conferred Doctor of peace and security management/international relations with specialization in war/conflict and peace studies from Triune Biblical University, USA.

“It’s such an honor to know that Yoruba Nation’s efforts are not in vain.”

Others at the event were the leader and vice chairman of the Yoruba self-determination movement, Banji Akintoye and Wale Adeniran, respectively, among others.

The Star recalls that Sunday Igboho was arrested alongside his wife, Ropo, on July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou while attempting to flee to Germany.

Igboho’s wife was later released while the embattled Yoruba Nation activist was returned to the custody of Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou.

This came after the Beninese court ordered that the Yoruba secessionist leader be remanded in a prison facility in the Francophone West African nation while further investigations were carried out on the case against the agitator.

After being declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS), he was accused of stockpiling arms to destabilise Nigeria.

He, however, denied the allegation.

Igboho’s counsel, Yomi Alliyu, SAN, later announced his release, noting that the Yoruba Nation agitator’s release was under the agreement that he won’t leave the medical centre or Cotonou for any reason.
