The Supreme Court, on Monday, August 19, 2024, commenced hearing on electoral disputes that trailed the conduct of the 2023 governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi States.
Former Minister of Petroleum Resources Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is challenging the electoral victory of Governor Douye Diri in the gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State.
Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is also challenging the declaration made by INEC on the outcome of the governorship election in Kogi State.
The electoral umpired had, in 2023, announced Governor Usman Ododo as the winner of the poll.
The Governorship Election Petition Tribunals and the Court of Appeal which sat in Abuja, in their respective findings, affirmed the declaration of INEC on various grounds.
