President Bola Tinubu has condemned the bomb attack, which resulted in the loss of lives in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Star had reported that the incident occurred after a suicide bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near a busy motor park known as Marrarraban Gwoza in Gwoza town on Saturday, June 29, 2024.

An eyewitness, who identified himself as Buba, revealed that the suicide bomber targeted a wedding ceremony in the area.

Confirming the incident, the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Lawal, disclosed that the attack was carried out by a female suicide bomber.

Lawal said he was informed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Gwoza that at least six people were killed with 15 others evacuated to the hospital.

Reacting to the incident, Tinubu, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, on Sunday, June 30, described the attack as desperate acts of terror and a clear manifestation of the pressure mounted against terrorists and the success achieved in degrading their capacity to launch offensives.

Tinubu declared that “the purveyors of wanton violence shall have a certain encounter with justice, and that these cowardly attacks are only but an isolated episode”, stressing that his government will not allow the nation to slither into an era of fear, tears, sorrow, and blood.

The president stated that his administration is taking necessary measures to secure citizens, emphasising that efforts will be redoubled to ensure that those who trouble Nigeria, dispatching precious lives, and disrupting law and order are completely removed.

President Tinubu, therefore, condoled the victims of the attack, the families of the deceased, as well as the government and people of Borno State.
