President Bola Tinubu has denied asking the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, to resign from his position.
A report had emerged that Tinubu asked Cardoso to resign as the CBN Governor.
The report claimed that the president issued the directive to Cardoso before departing for China, despite efforts by influential Yoruba leaders to keep him in the position.
Reacting, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on X on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, described the report as false.

“It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign,” Onanuga wrote.
Cardoso has faced criticism for his inability to address the ongoing economic challenges in the country and stabilise the naira.
A seasoned economic and development policy advisor, he was nominated by President Tinubu on September 15, 2023, and assumed office as CBN Governor on September 22, 2023.
Cardoso and his deputies were cleared by the National Assembly days before he took over from acting CBN Governor, Folashodun Shonubi.
