Tinubu returns to Abuja after 2 weeks abroad

President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja after two-week trips to The Netherlands and Saudi Arabia.

Tinubu, who left Nigeria on April 23, returned to the Presidential Villa in Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday, May 8, 2024.

His return was confirmed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Onanuga, in a post on his X account on Wednesday, wrote: “Welcome Home Mr President!”

The presidential spokesman had, in a tweet on Tuesday evening, disclosed that Tinubu will return to Nigeria on Wednesday.

Tinubu departs for Netherlands, Saudi Arabia for official visits

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with his aides, will return to Nigeria tomorrow from Europe,” he noted.

It would be recalled that President Tinubu departed Abuja for The Netherlands on an official visit on April 23.

Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale said the president was visiting the country at the invitation of Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

After the engagements in The Netherlands, Tinubu proceeded to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia to attend a special World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting between April 28 and 29.

At the meeting, Tinubu called for collaboration and inclusiveness to end global challenges.

The president said collaboration and inclusiveness, especially with regard to Africa, are elemental to building a future of hope, peace, and progress for all.

He also said he removed fuel subsidy to prevent Nigeria from going bankrupt and to reset the economy.

Tinubu described the fuel subsidy removal as necessary for Nigeria, saying he had to make tough but essential decisions like the removal and managing the nation’s currency, effectively removing corruption-laden arbitrage.
