President Bola Tinubu has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to remain impartial and avoid any actions that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process in Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Edo State.
The president, who expressed unwavering confidence in the professionalism and integrity of security agencies and INEC officials, called on all stakeholders in the September 21 governorship election in Edo State to conduct themselves peacefully and sportingly.
Tinubu was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday, September 20, 2024.
He also enjoined the governorship candidates, political parties, and supporters to respect the democratic process and the people’s will, saying he believes in the voters’ ability to make informed decisions about their future leaders.

President Tinubu stressed that “democracy thrives on civility, tolerance, patience, and respect for the rules of the game”, adding that INEC has committed to conducting a free and fair election on Saturday.
Tinubu further urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure a successful and peaceful process.
He, therefore, commended the governorship candidates and political parties for their campaigns, which he said focused on issues that matter most to the people of Edo State, including improving livelihoods, promoting economic growth, and contributing to national development.
Tinubu urged the people of Edo State to remain peaceful and respectful throughout the voting process just as he enjoined them to resolve any disagreements amicably through the constituted authorities.
